Its not opposition’s duty to destabilise the ruling government
The first BJP government in the south bastion is in deep trouble. CM Yeddyurappa has been in trouble since inception of the government. These troubles have been more due to infighting in the BJP. Not long agoBJP had got resounding success in the municipality elections. Barring Christians, none of the communities has any sort of problem from BJP. It is not a hidden secret that larger segment of church has been demanding for the dismissal of Yedurappa government and had even submitted memorandum to governor in this regard.
The current trouble in the BJP is due to resentment in the certain section of MLAs. Congress and JD(S) have become active to take advantage of the situation. It is futile to expect value based politics from government. However, Congress has forgotten that how Kumaraswami had dethroned Congress ruled Dharma singh government 4-years-ago.
From the last few years this has become tradition of opposition to destabilise the ruling government at any cost. No one can deny role of opposition in democratic establishment. It is also true that governments become autocratic in the absence of opposition. But if opposition destabilises any functioning government, then it should also present viable option to people. But, the million dollar question is will JD(S) and Congress dare to form the government?
It is obvious that Congress was never able to digest BJP government in the south bastion. Church equally disliked BJP government. This was precisely the reason Congress government sent former law minister Hansraj Bhardwaj to contain the BJP government. Post of governor is very important in the constitution and everbody expects impartial behaviour and not politically motivated behaviour. Hansraj Bhardwaj has miserably failed on this account. He is more seen as Congress worker and less as a governor.
A seminar in the India Habitat Centre in Delhi was organised by journalists to discuss on the role of governor of Karnataka in the last month. Many former governors and legal luminaries had criticised him for his alleged role in the state. He is constantly creating obstacles for CM Yeddyurappa
Now, ball is in the court of central government. Governor has raised question on the win in the confidence motion. Governor has proposed for President Rule in the state. Speaker of the assembly disqualified 16 MLA’s. Disqualified MLA’s are now in the cort that will review decision of speaker.
Will BJP be able to save government? Only future will tell this. But, it is the democracy which has been ashamed from the political maneeuvers of governor. The way in which governor directed speaker not to disqualify MLA’s made it aptly clear that he is more in the role of opposition. Karnataka episode has once again raised this question of more political reforms in the country.

    PRESS RELEASE
Dalit Christians are a Harried Lot
    New Delhi, January 3, 2012
The debate related to the status of Christians in India is going on. There are two points to this wide ranging debate. Firstly, social, economic and political status of converted Christians and second is growing tension in different parts of the country due to conversion related activities. The second has more to do with the way Church adopt to function in the country.
Downtrodden class in India has always been victim of unequal treatment, casteism and social exploitation. In order to seek solace and relief from their pathetic condition they are still coming under the aegis of church for the last 3 or 4 centuries. But, here, too, they have been exploited in the name of caste and race. The hope with which they had come in the Christianity seems to have forfeited. On the contrary, they are now entangled in even deeper quagmire of inequality.
Converted Christians are the backbone of Catholic Church in India but their participation in the structure of Catholic Church is zero. Bishop, Father and Cardinal from this class are rare to find and those who somehow managed after hard fought struggle are standing marginalized in the society. They are being treated differently by their upper-class brothers (Bishops and Fathers).
There is a widespread anger among converted Christians against the policies adopted by the church. They have started demanding their rights within the existing structure of church. The response of church has been abysmal in this regard. The church leadership has termed this anger unjustified. Instead of addressing the genuine concerns of converted Christians they have shied away from their responsibilities and are trying to shift it on government of India. This is being done in order to fulfill their own ulterior motive. By doing so church is pushing these people in the same quagmire of caste system.
After government of India, church is the only organized entity that can make available jobs but the participation of converted Christians is very low and maximum they can get is post of driver, cook, clerk, peon and gatekeeper. These jobs, too, can be availed on the mercy of Bishops and their condition is no better than slave laborer.
Poor Christian Liberation Movement (PCLM), an umbrella organization of Dalit Christians, asks church to compensate for the injustice and exploitation meted out to millions of converted Christians. Vatican had done this in the past and it can also be done here.
Church receives huge donation in the name of social service and development of disciples of the faith but hardly anything has changed on the ground. This is certainly a food for thought that where this money goes?
PCLM is of the view that church officials don’t want to leave any benefit currently enjoyed by them at any cost. They are not at all concerned with the betterment of converted Christians. This is why there is no hint of betterment of the status of this community even in distant future. The current system harbours inequality. That is why it will be wrong to expect that things will change in near future.
Converted Christians appeal Pope Benedict XVI and Church Authority to take concrete step for the change in fundamental structure of church which will help the deprived section of Christian community to look up.

The story of Budhiya offers insight to see the malaise prevalent in church system

“A Hindi Novel ‘Budhiya, Ek Satyakatha’, by P. B. Lomeo, brings to light the evils within the four walls of Indian Church System. The story narrates how life of a Pandavani Actor Budhiya turned miserable after getting into the fold of Christianity.”

    R L Francis
Church leaders always remain cautious to allegations of conversion and especially when it involves fraud, deceit and greed. They out rightly reject such allegations. People who make such allegations are told to present proof.

“Budhiya-Ek Satyakatha”(Budhiya-A true story) has been authored by P.B Lomeo, resident of Jhansi, and noted Christian thinker and the novel exposes Christian priests. This is not a fiction but a reality and message encrypted on the grounds of truth. It offers church to adopt some reform measures to change the situation. The novel requests church to take positive view of the issues raised in the novel.

This is perhaps the first novel of its kind in north India written on heated issue of conversion and imperialistic thinking of church. There are scores of books, novels and stories on pathetic status of Dalit within Brahminical framework but nobody has tried to gauze the status of the class being discriminated and tortured under fore walls of church system.
This short novel is also story of millions of converted Christians who adopted Christianity and rejected their original Hindu faith in the hope of better life and respect. But, their conditions have worsened and priests are exploiting them even more.

This is the story of Budhiya who is Pandavani actor who reaches Padlikpur Mission station and here he comes in contact of priests. In order to help these deprived souls these priests open their doors. They offer Budhiya and their people oil, milk, powder, imported American soap, paneer, butter, rice and wheat.

And, precisely from here bad luck of Pandavani actors starts. Christian priests convert them into their faith and settle them in Judpur-Jhansi. This is the agriculture farm village of Catholics. This is situated seven kilometers north-east of Jhansi. Pandavani playing family becomes slave from actor and their fall starts.

Pandavani was more a local form of singing and dancing cultural drama. But, times changed and Tijanbai popularized this art at international level. Everybody knows Tijanbai but hardly anyone aware of Budhiya who is from same land. She was as much skilled in Pandavani art form as Tijanbai. Had they were not converted into Christianity their fate would have been different. Author is also a character in the novel. He, himself, has been tormented by the church system. His friends show cowardice and don’t support him in his battle.

Author has tried to reveal the truth in interesting plots of the story. He has hardly hit the class discrimination in Church. He has not spared nuns and fathers who are using every trick of the trade.
Religion never teaches to practice evil. But, both good and bad things have entered in the religious system over time and people have put blind eye to these evils. Budhiya-Ek Satyakatha will give you the insight to see those evils.
